A Lavish Life Aboard a Carnival Cruise Ship Holiday

Article by Gordon Banks

A comfortable and copious life is not impossible when you are in the middle of the ocean. Thanks to hundreds of luxury liners and cruise vessels that make it likely to happen, such as the Carnival cruise ship Holiday. As a simple background of the shipping vessel, it is considered as one of the oldest cruise ship in the United States that is still sailing the great waters surrounding the Caribbean islands.

Although other cruising vessels may offer modern day facilities and state of the art service, this ship is most likely to be at par with them. The kind of services it tenders has still the influence of its olden days when the ship first sailed in 1985. But what makes most people keep going back on board it is the fact that it offers more than just luxury, but a sense of boarding an unequaled vintage ship.

The external and internal features of the ship are well maintained by experts. So expect the old-fashioned walls, ceilings, and ornaments to be in good shape. Moreover, you will be delighted with the perfect color combination of blue, red, and purple that are dispersed in the lobbies and dining rooms of the vessel. What’s more enchanting is that the ship had kept most of the adorable antiques, like mirrors and chrome and brass works, at place.

Aside from having one of the historical cabins, the ship also offers public rooms that are still very functional and elegant. These rooms include the Gaming Club Casino, which is a perfect place for individuals to play poker, baccarat, blackjack, chuck-a-luck, and roulette; the Reflection Dance club ideal for night parties and dance grooves; and the Doc Holiday’s, a bar that boasts country western features. In addition to these public rooms, there is also a library, a beauty salon, a pool place for recreation, a play place for children, a video arcade, and more entertainment lounges.

The accommodation experience will also make you feel “home sweet home” even if you are away from your residence. The private rooms in this ship provide some of the most exquisite and elegant designs fro its carpeted floors, drawers, closets, bed, and bathrooms. You have a choice to stay in an interior stateroom, ocean view stateroom, or a suit. You are guaranteed that these rooms are still made perfect for you, and that “comfort” is their main theme of design.

Being in the Holiday package adventure will give you more pleasures than a normal vacation can give. For the reason that you are actually sailing from place to place, expect more excitement as you land on some of the world’s most exotic places in the Caribbean. When you do some stopover to some of the breathtaking beaches, don’t put out of your mind to do some swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving, and explore the underwater wonders of the Caribbean. In addition, you can also do some shoreline activities like Frisbees and beach volleyball. You can also experience a night of good socialization with the locals of the islands and dance to their music.

The Master of Design: Joe Farcus, Carnival Cruise Line’s Ship Architect

Article by Roy Witman

© 2006, All Rights Reserved

Who in the world came up with these ideas? Aboard the Carnival Celebration you’ll find yourself transported into the heyday of New Orleans Mardi Gras. On Fascination and Hollywood, you can step back into the golden era of ocean liners with vintage designs throughout the ships. But who thinks up and executes these amazing design plans? Joe Farcus, that’s who!

Joe Farcus is the ship architect for Carnival Cruise Lines. It is his vision passengers see each time they step foot onto a Fun Ship®. Raised in Miami Beach, Florida, Farcus always fantasized about ships. His constant sketching of ocean liners was no doubt part of the reason he pursued an architectural degree. After graduation from the University of Florida in 1967, Farcus landed his first Carnival project – the redesign of the Carnivale – while employed for a local architectural firm.

Described as bold, daring and sometimes even brash, Farcus creates interior designs from his heart and his imagination. Working from an initial central concept, Farcus expands from idea to application, as his vision touches every part of the ship. From atriums to restaurants to staterooms, full control of the aesthetics of the ship is placed in the hands of this one man, as he gives each ship its own distinct personality.

Miracle is whimsical with an array of fictional characters splashed about throughout her common areas. Spirit is refined, featuring a Louis XIV-inspired casino and Chippendale Internet Café. Destiny is dazzling and bright with a towering mirrored atrium elevator that stretches nine-decks high.

Where do the ideas come from? The Amber Palace show lounge (on Glory) was fashioned after the Amber Room in Russia while the Starry Night Jazz Club (aboard Pride) was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s painting of the same name.

What lies ahead for future ships? Freedom, set to debut in 2007, will carry a central theme of Decades Through the Centuries. From ancient Babylonia to the Victorian era to 1970s disco and beyond, passengers will walk through time, as they sail the sea. When asked about the concept, Farcus replied, “I thought it would be interesting to go back in time to find inspiration for the various public rooms. As always, I tried to use the function of the room to suggest how the room will reflect the central design idea.”

And other ships? What does Farcus hold in store for them? Splendor is slated to enter service in the fall of 2008, and Carnival has a super liner (yet to be named) under construction and scheduled for delivery in fall 2009. “I design each ship to tell a story, and it gives me great joy to be able to share these stories with guests.” So much so, in fact, that Carnival will soon be broadcasting videos aboard ship highlighting Joe Farcus and his design process.

With a seemingly never-ending supply of brilliant design concepts, Joe Farcus will surely continue to contribute to the fun that the Carnival Fun Ships® have become so famous for.

Sail Away with Mickey and Goofy on a Disney Cruise Line

Article by CL Hendricks

Disney Cruise Line came into being in 1999 and for 10 years has been the cruise line leader in “family” cruises. They immediately redefined the cruise industry with the majority of their staterooms being larger and having balconies. They were also the first to place bathtubs in the majority of their staterooms, something needed for young children.

The designers of Disney Cruise Line ships definitely had children in mind when they designed the different areas specifically for children. For little ones, 3 months to 3 years, there’s Flounders Reef Nursery with their low ratio of children to caretakers. Decorated in the Little Mermaid theme, the center is fully-equipped with baby swings, walkers, music and a VCR/television for movies, all designed to provide mental stimulation and entertainment.

For kids 3 to 7, the Oceaneer Club is a pirate ship from Neverland. There’s a sparkling “night sky”, a television secreted in a treasure chest and lamps from barrels. Security is vital here, ensuring that the children are safe and happy as they play games dressed up as a princesses, pirates or villains. There is a computer lab with a kid-sized mouse, a Lego table for them to express their creativity, and a play area for climbing and sliding.

The Oceaneers Lab for kids 8 to 12 is decorated in a futuristic outer space theme complete with a large-screen Nintendo and a huge Buzz Lightyear. There are numerous computer terminals so they can play computer games, a lab for on-hands experiments and Quackamation where they can learn how to draw Donald Duck. There are activities such as Regatta Racers, the Apprentice’s Workshop and the 4th Pig’s Pasta Palace. The older kids can also participate in the Nautical Mystery Tour and be thrilled with tales of mysterious ghost ships and disappearing islands in Mysterious Islands and the Search for Atlantis.

For the teens the Aloft is a high-energy club complete with a dance floor, computer station, alcohol-free drinks, multiple video screens and plenty for room for socializing. There are activities such as the Welcome Party, the Teen Aloha Pool Party, special teens-only shore excursions and Teen Karaoke at Studio Sea. There are a number of organized games and challenges like Whatever Floats your Boat where teens compete to build the winning bamboo boat. There are also opportunities to kayak, snorkel and explore on Castaway Cay.

The childrens’ pools on a Disney cruise ship are pure whimsy and fun. Mickey’s Pool is the kiddie pool, only 2-foot-deep with a smiling Mickey Mouse, and reserved for the swim-diaper set. Goofy’s Pool is a 4-foot-deep pool that features a portrait of Goofy on the bottom of the pool. There are also two whirlpool spas where parents can relax while watching their kids. For the adults, the Quiet Cove Pool is open until midnight and is the perfect escape for guests who want to relax and enjoy the quiet.

Disney Cruise Line has set the bar so high for a family cruise line that other cruise lines are playing catch up. Family cruises have reached a new high with all the innovations and attractions that are standard fare on Disney Cruises.

Disney Cruise Vacation: What Are Your Options?

Article by Jane Brennan

Cruises are becoming more and more popular with families. However, some parents are opting out of cruises for more “traditional” family vacations because of fears that there may not be enough appropriate entertainment or other children on board. Of course, not all cruises are family-friendly, but many cruise lines are now offering cruises especially for families. What To DoThere are many cruises that are designed specifically with families in mind. Here are just some of the things that you might find to do on these family-friendly cruises.* Cruises designed to be family-friendly should have a wide range of amenities designed for the younger guests. In addition to the amenities for adults, check out the children’s activities as well. The good cruises will have lots of toys and games for children to use. However, also look for cruises that may not offer TV and video games, and encourage your children to enjoy the sunshine and other activities.* When choosing a cruise line, make sure there are also many activities planned for children as well as the adults. Make sure the activities are based on the ages and interests of your children. Some of these activities may include things like painting and crafts, and may also include learning projects geared to the locations the ship will be visiting. Make sure that your children are going to have enough activities that will aid in their meeting others they will like. If you have found a good cruise line, most of these children and youth activities are done without parents, so that the parents will have ample time to do the things that they would like to do too. But make sure the children and youth are well-supervised.* In addition to individual activities, family-friendly cruises should also offer you the ability to have family activities as well. Many have pools designed just for children and families. The ports of call may also be fun-filled for the kids on board, and a good place for the entire family to spend time together. If you want to be assured your children are well catered for, take a ride on the Disney Cruise Line.Sailing with Mickey Mouse and his friends is always a fun for children. Disney goes beyond the call of duty to create magic for the entire family. The ship itself is designed with the Disney fan in mind, with a vibrantly colored ship and many of the favorite things associated with the Disney association. When you are planning a trip with children, make sure to book a trip that is full of fun for the entire family. With the Disney Cruise Lines, you will find a wide range of activities offered to your children, but enough to keep you busy as well. Your only choice will be how long to stay.

Carnival Cruise Insider Tips

Article by Anna Peacocks

A Carnival Cruise is one of the best vacations you can take. Whether this is your first cruise or your tenth use these tips to make you Carnival Cruise more enjoyable. These tips are gathered from my personal experience and that of other passengers.

1. Don’t pack all of your items into one bag. Split your clothing up into a couple of bags. This way if one of the bags is lost you will still have clothing until the other bag is found.

2. Pack essentials (medicine, passports, and cruise documents) in your carryon. You will have your carryon with you until you get your room reducing the likely hood of these items getting lost.

3. Bring Ziploc bags with you. These are ideal for small items in that you don’t want to get wet. On the flip side they are also great for placing your wet bathing suit in after a shore excursion.

4. Bring your own aspirin, small toiletries and sunscreen. Although you can get these items onboard it is usually cheaper to purchase these items before the cruise.

5. Notify your bank or credit card company ahead of time telling them where you will be traveling. A quick call will alert them that your card will be used outside of the United States.

6. You will get a sign and sail card as soon as you arrive at the cruise terminal. This will be used for all purchases onboard and for leaving and returning to the ship while in port. Once onboard go to the casino and they will give you a lanyard and punch your card to attach the lanyard. This is a great way to make sure you don’t lose your card.

7. Take a notebook with you. This way you can document your cruise each day. With all of the activities you will be doing it is easy to forget just what you did.

8. Check your dining room seating arrangement as soon as possible the first day. If you find it is not to your liking contact the Matrade and he should be able to change your seating.

9. If you have a balcony room and have friends staying in the next door cabin ask the room stewart to open the balcony divider. You can also do this yourself with a small set of pliers (Leatherman).

10. Each ship sells Monkey Head collectable drinks. The monkey heads are coconuts carved out to look like a monkey with a plastic cup inside containing the drink of the day. Although novel these items usually sell out so it pays to get yours early.

11. Get to the cruise terminal early. Although you are usually told that loading will not start until early afternoon usually you can board by noon. This gives you time to explore the ship, eat and have a few drinks. Note that you most likely won’t be able to get into your room right away but with everything you need in your carryon there is no need.

12. If you plan to play the slots in the casino they are usually “looser” on the first couple of days of the cruise or so I’ve been told.

13. If you didn’t book your shore excursions before your cruise check to see what is offered shortly after boarding the ship. Many of the popular shore excursions will sell out within the first day.

14. If traveling with kids bring a small drink cooler. You can fill it with free lemonade and keep it in your room. This saves running to the dining areas every time you need a drink.

15. If you are a coffee drinker order coffee the night before and your room stewert will bring it to your room in the morning.

16. Each day the menu changes and although there is usually something for everyone if you don’t see something you like just ask for something different. The waiters and chefs want you happy and will usually accommodate you.

17. You can order as much food as you want. If you want two of the same item don’t be afraid to ask.

18. If you drink beer it is usually cheaper to buy it by the bucket. The bucket contains four beers and is filled with ice keeping it cold.

19. Shore excursions can be a lot of fun but don’t think you have to book one. Sometimes it is fun to explore on your own or even stay on the ship which is usually quite empty on shore days.

20. The most important tip is to have fun. The staff will do their best to make your cruise enjoyable but nobody is perfect. If you have any problems just let the staff know and they will go out of their way to help you.

A Splendid Disney Cruise Transportation

Article by O.B.

There are three transportation alternatives you can take on your way to Port Canaveral where the famed Disney Cruise Line docks. You can book a town car or a limousine, take the Disney motor coach, or rent a vehicle. The most obvious choice is to take the Disney Cruise shuttle, which is a pre-booked transfer as part of the package. If you bought a cruise only package, you can board the bus at Terminal A, for a land/sea package, the bus will meet you at your hotel on schedule. Several Disney cruise members are scattered around the airport to entertain queries regarding the shuttle departure schedule and process.

The motor coaches operate on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and do not leave until the bus is filled. The downside to this is that if you arrive during the peak season-despite the high number of coaches deployed to accommodate passengers-the queue for the ride is extremely long.

On the other hand, if you visit during the off-peak period, it will take as much as two hours and a half before the bus is filled and ready to depart. The elapsed waiting time is inconvenient if you intend to catch the check-in schedule for Palo and spa reservations. The rate for a one-way ride is per person and for a round-trip ticket. Daily departure begins at 10:30 in the morning.

Car rental is also a good option because you are free to make a stopover for last-minute necessities. Orlando is the largest car rental market in the world and you can choose from many companies providing this service within and outside the airport.

Depending on your contracted car provider, you may have to take a shuttle or a taxi in order for you to get to the cruise terminal. That is why you need to consider the proximity of the off-site rental facility to Port Canaveral. Budget, Avis, Thrifty, and Hertz have offices in the area. And since you are driving, you might as well orient yourself with the Orlando-Cape Canaveral-Port Canaveral route.

Another viable option is to reserve an SUV or luxury vehicle. This is economical if you are travelling with a group of more than four persons because they charge a flat rate per vehicle and the cost can be divided amongst the number of passengers. It is extremely convenient because the carrier is booked exclusively, so you will not have to share it with another group and can leave for the cruise terminal immediately. You can go on your way at the agreed schedule and in case you arrive too early to board, the chauffeur can show you the nearby tourist spots.

Companies that specialize in cruise terminal transfers are Tiffany Towncar, Ace Luxury, Orlando Limousine, Mears, and Happy Limo, among others. You should identify which cruise you are on, because Disney Magic and Disney Wonder have different boarding areas.

Disney cruise is a grand vacation of a lifetime for you and your family, but remember that ‘how you get there’ should be is as splendid as the destination.

Disney Cruise

Article by Virgilio Vallecera

Disney’s’ cruise ships – Disney Magic and Disney Wonder – embody the style and spirit of the grand ocean liners days lost with all the modern conveniences you’re accustomed to premiere cruise line. The two ships are virtually identical except for some decorating details – Wonder is decked out in Art Nouveau style, while the Magic are designed by art Deco style – and the names of some of the restaurants and clubs. Both vessels to add some interesting dining rotation, with your tablemates (in fact, the whole dining room full of guests) will be given three restaurants with their own servers and wait staff, so you will experience a different restaurant each night without sacrificing the attention and pampering each with their own servers. And what restaurants they are – Parrots Cay offers a fun, tropical flavor (and the fantastic breakfast buffet, and Disney characters often pass without notice, so be sure to have those cameras and autograph books handy!). Animator palate is a very unique restaurant, where the decor will be black, white and gray, but at the end of the meal is a full burst of colors and Disney pictures, all with a musical musical, and Lumiere’s / Triton’s, an elegant restaurant decorated with beautiful mosaics depicting scenes from The Little Mermaid is a Disney Wonder and Beauty and the Beast on the Disney Magic.

Both vessels have a range of functions and activities intended only for the younger set, including a family pool and water slide (fashioned as Mickey’s gloved hand), snack bars, party communications service chicken fillet, French fries and ice cream, fully equipped children’s camp “open” to midnight, with Counselors, major activities, playgrounds and computers, a major Disney-themed shoes (including one starring all the children on board, assisted by their advisers) and more characters than you could ever meet Disney World. All this attention to children is certainly not short change in adults who do not have your pool and spa, adults only restaurant (reservations as soon as you board-Paolo’s hit), adult clubs, and even their beauty, private cove beach, Disney’s own castaway cay island paradise.

Disney Cruise Ships The rooms are about 25% larger than comparable rooms on other cruise ships, and many include a unique split half bath, to make arrangements easier for families. No doubt there is more food than you can eat or activities you can participate in to meet a number of cruises, and surely you will find yourself wishing that the cruise were longer – or to start planning your next trip before you even leave!
